Rigid Low Loader
CMP Engineers has designed a rigid 8-wheel low loader capable of transporting payloads weighing 600 tonnes. Two separate designs have been created, one using predominately Caterpillar parts and the other using predominately Hitachi parts. The payloads are loaded from the side of the machine using retractable ramps.

The design incorporating Hitachi parts feature wheels and axles from a Hitachi EH5000 which gives a gross mass of 830 tonnes at 18% overload from the dump truck rating. This low loader is capable of transporting excavators up to a Hitachi EX5500 (530 tonnes), based on a tare mass of 300 tonnes. The drive system consists of a Detroit 16V400 Engine, Siemens AC Electric Drive System and Hitachi EH5000 Wheel Motors.

The design incorporating Caterpillar parts feature wheels and axles from a CAT 797 which gives a gross mass of 910 tonnes at 10% overload from the dump truck rating. This low loader is capable of transporting payloads of up to 600 tonnes, including the Hitachi EX5500, the Terex RH340 and the Leibherr 996. The drive system consists of a CAT 797B drive axle and transmission, a drop box based on a CAT 797 crown-wheel-and-pinion set, a CAT 797B torque-converter and a CAT C175-16 engine.
