In order to maximise the productivity of existing rear dump vehicles, body designs can be optimised for different products. Through the use of Finite Element Analysis and our experience in fatigue-tolerant design, bodies can be designed that have both a long service life and a low tare weight. Further weight savings are possible if high strength formable steels are utilised in place of extensive wear packages.
Over the past few years, it has become possible to purchase formable and weldable structural steel plate with a surface hardness comparable with wear plate. This has enabled the production of truck bodies with good abrasive wear properties without the need for wear plates. The high strength of the plate has also made it possible to reduce the thickness of the floor and wall plates, particularly where lightweight materials such as coal or bauxite are being carried.
